Just got a EVGA GTX 950 SSC working in my Mac pro 3.1 2008.

A bit surprised to have a pretty unstable 60-120 fps i CS:GO.

I have a iMac 2012 that does a stable 140-150.

I thought that the Mac pro now at least would be faster than the iMac.

GTX 950 SSC a bad card?

Ok im confused, everybody says that changing the gfx card is such a lift for the old Mac pros. But that isnt aplied to games then? I mean, games are what gfx Cards is about? :/

Almost feel that something is wrong or could be trimmed or somrthing. Online there so much people installing graphicscard in their old Mac pros with great results:/

Since your 2012 iMac can do stable 140FPS. That means this game doesn't need strong GPU at the very beginning. The game may be GPU limiting on your iMac, but all you need is just the GPU that same as 2012 iMac, nothing stronger required. The 950 obviously way more than that.

However, the 2012 iMac has much faster CPU than the 2008 Mac Pro. And there is no way to upgrade the 3,1 to match the 2012 iMac's single core performance. Therefore, your result suggest that the game is now CPU limiting on your 3,1.

One of the easy test is to lower the resolution of your game (I assume your setting is the max now). If lower the resolution didn't increase FPS. That means the bottleneck is not at the GPU at all.

Thanks for the insight, and yes youre right about the resolution. Well, ill might just get a pc then to put my gfx card in. And maybe try to run OSX on that.
