hey guys..

Since the past few days there has been this strange problem. Any type of file be it a movie, a song or a .dmg file... all of them seem to open with Excel 2004. I changed the default application for opening these files. It works perfect with old files, but when I download new files.. all of them seem to open with Excel again. And it seems to use some strange icon..I am attaching a screenshot with this post.

What can be the problem here?

When changing the default application by selecting a file in the Finder and going into Menu Bar: File->Get Info, and choosing the appropriate Application to open that file with; did you click the "Change All..." button?

That's an OLD icon! That's the icon used on Excel documents on my System 6 Mac with Excel 3 (I think).

Yes I did that.

Actually, the problem got solved. All I did was to un-install Micrsoft Office. Let the money go waste, but I am not re-installing that. Appleworks will be good enough for someone who writes stuff.
