Excel Formatting

Ok, so i'm making a roster with more than 150 people on it, and being able to remember what column is what is pretty tricky when you can't see the top line anymore.

I saw once that someone i know had somehow gotten to first row to be static while the rest moved so that they could always see what it was they were working on?
i've looked around excel for how to do this, and since i don't know what its actually called, help doesn't well..help much.

On my PC here at work, you use the "freeze panes" option in the Window menu. Dunno if its exactly the same in the mac version, but I'm sure its called the same thing. You just select the line below the one you want to fereze, use the command, and you're done.

If you select the entire row immediately the one you want to be static & then hit Window>Freeze Panes, this should do the trick.

You can also do this with columns, and also select both rows and columns to freeze.

Edit: Darn - beaten by a minute! But I can confirm that it works the same in the Mac version

There's also a small tab at the upper right of the spreadsheet, above the scrolling bar, that you can click and drag down to the bottom of whatever row you want to be static. Also on at the bottom left for columns...

After you slide those tab(s), make sure the focus is in the main body, not in the newly static rows/columns, so you don't accidentally scroll the tiny top or left pane.
