Hello,

Having all sorts of problems opening up some previous Excel files.
Created only a few months ago. From Office Home And student 2016

When I look at the icon now, it has a totally black section now, about 75 % of the icon.
What does this signify, please ? See uploaded image, please.
And, i see the extension is .xlsx for the file.
Is this correct ?
I seem to remember, but I might be wrong, that it
was previously just .xlx

Thanks,
Bob

XLSX is correct. It was never XLX because that is not a valid Excel extension.
It was either XLS (legacy Excel) or XLSX (current Excel since 2007).

What happens when you try opening those files? If you expect any help you have to specify what "all sorts of problems" means ;)

Hi,

Thanks for help.

I re-booted the Mac, and Excel seems to work the way expected now.

No idea what happened, but it seems to happen "often" after going to Windows via Bootcamp, and back again.

Regards,
Bob
