Excel sheet on TV?

I have a question before i am gonna buy an Apple TV unit. Let me explain the situation:

Full HD TV --> Apple TV --> RJ45 cable --> Computer

i am working constantly in a Excel sheet on the Computer. When done, i place it on an usb stick, put it in the pc behind the TV and place it there to show it on the screen in the lunchroom.

I want to remove the pc (too much power for just an excel sheet) and replace it with an Apple TV unit.
Is it possible that a Apple TV can display the Excel sheet trough the RJ45 on the Full HD TV? or is it just an Apple thing like with the iPad that only some programs can be shown on the screen?

Then save your Excel worksheet as a PNG onto a USB thumb drive and plug it into the player.

Assuming you actually have a Mac and an Apple TV already, try this: In the Finder, go to the help menu, enter "taking pictures". That gets you to an article for shortcuts to take pictures of the screen, or of a window, or part of a window. Follow the instructions, drag the picture into iPhoto, and Apple TV should be able to display it from there.

Well, the computer which is hanging on the Apple TV is a normal windows machine. I guess it should work also isnt?

Because an AppleTV can only stream video/photos from a computer running iTunes, so to use an Apple TV like you want you would also need a computer running to serve up the picture files, so you may as well just keep using the PC you're using now.

How old is the TV, most newer TV's have USB ports that can be used to view pictures.

There's a much easier way to handle this that will be available shortly. Apple says the new iCould service will put your photos on your Apple TV 2. So, you can create and edit the spreadsheet, capture a screen shot and add it to your photo stream on a PC, Mac or iOS device. It will then be available on your Apple TV 2, assuming you have an internet connection available to the ATV.

Should be pretty easy.

Now, if you think your going to want to edit the spreadsheet you might want to use an iPhone 4s or iPad 2. Both devices have many applications that allow for editing of a spreadsheet and they support display mirroring to an Apple TV 2. Note, those are the only two iOS devices that support display mirroring. I think I'd prefer this option since you can edit the spreadsheet and display other things as well.

Not sure if this is relevant or not, but I used to run a second screen that was hung in the assembly shop where i worked this displayed a excel spreadsheet with the days requirements on it. To do this I saved a file as .html and slightly edited to code to reload every minute. This is the file that was selected to show on that screen. I the office I had the file open to edit and every change I made and saved would display in the assembly shop within a minute.

But you still need a web browser on some sort of very basic pc, so a jailbroken Apple TV could be an option.

Yup. It's not the most convenient, but it certainly is possible.

You'll need to convert it to an image (or several images, if it's a large doc); either by taking screenshots or using utilities which will convert the spreadsheet directly to an image, or to a PDF and then to an image. If you have one image per page of the spreadsheet, you can flick through the pages as in a presentation.
