macOS Excel / VBA

There's a lot of jobs going that are looking for Excel / VBA in addition to what I've already got. If I get Excel for OS X, will I be able to learn this with appropriate books? Is is possible to fake it at any level with OpenOffice / NeoOffice?

Your best off just getting a PC or doing it through Parallels on your Mac. I'm pretty sure Microsoft is getting rid of the VB stuff in their next version of Office (the universal one).

I concur with kainjow; Office 2007 will be release within a few months (most likely sooner than later); just check out a book until then.

What is the skill that will be required when everybody shifts to Office 2007? If not Excel/VBA, then what?

I noticed that NeoOffice has something similar, but not exactly like, Excel VBA in the Spreadsheet App. And I don't think it's quite as stable or reliable.

I'm willing to bet 99% of all the jobs you see are businesses that are using PCs and not Macs, and Microsoft isn't removing the VB functions from Office for Windows, only the Mac version.

Again, 110% of businesses don't use NeoOffice. It's M$ products all the way. Just buy a PC or get a virtual solution and go from there. If you're wanting to get a job with this then learn the direct way, and mess with alternatives later.

I think most of you are right, but you also have to think that Microsoft, to pay for the software engineers, will just raise the price to what it needs, which usually means businesses that are not Fortune 500 will not install that until either the prices lower, or their income gets bigger. So, I'd go ahead and learn it on a Mac with the books. Just remember the layout is different on a PC than a Mac, but everything else is the same.
