the sad thing is, as I was watching that, I couldn't tell if it was my macbook or the one in the video making the sound. Let's hope apple fixes this with firmware soon, as they did for the mbp.

They haven't yet, or at least that I know of. I went on to their site to find out. No fix.

Everything right now is due to users finding workarounds.

I talked to a product specialist at apple...he said that he's heard about the problem from more than a few customers, he couldn't tell me for sure if there would be a firmware upgrade but he did say that he thought that apple would probably issue one, he sent me a program called 'capture data' which i was to download and let run on my computer and then e-mail the results back to them.
I wish someone knew for sure if this issue will be resolved cuz i just have 1 day left in which i can return my blackbook....what to do

The Moo seems to be related to the fan coming on and off, on and off, on and off....is there any possibility of creating a script (similar to the MBP script) that controls the fan to come on at a higher temperature? I'm surprised people have come up with a script for this but not a script for the moo.

And no, I'm not volunteering, cuz chances are I'd screw up everything.

yea rly. I'm new to laptops, but where there some magic machines that never made any fan nosie? I noticed the on and off, but really, I almost always have music playing so it doesnt matter...at all.

I don't think you really get it. The fan goes on for about 2 seconds, then off again, over and over and over. What it *should* do is come on when the computer hits a certain temperature and stay on until it significantly cools the thing.

This isn't normal or efficient fan operation; it allows unnecessary noise and probably heat as well.

listen to that and realise that the sound comming out of there is even louder in person. Now imagine that sound comming on and off every 2 seconds sporatically while you're trying to do your work. Now imagine students at your university library telling you to "turn down the volume of whatever video you are watching because I can't study with it going on." Now imagine chilling back and listening to some classical music only to be interupted with it at every other beat. Imagine being the dormmate of a person who has to sleep while you're typing up a late night paper. Imagine people having to ask you if your macbook is broken all the time even tho it is less than a week old.

It really does suck dude. I've sold hundreds of computers (including apples!) at my old job and I have never heard fans sound like that. So unless you have one, stop trying to put down others for a problem that doesn't exist for you. And if you do have moobook and can deal with it then good for you, but belitting others doesn't help anyone else feel good about themselves or the problem.

I heard it, although I didn't hear it in the first posted link. It doesn't sound as bad as people make it out to be. And, it sounded like the sound capture had the mic gain dial way the hell up, and even then, I didn't hear all that much.

It seems that my macbook doesn't have the 'moo' (so far). If it did, I don't think I'd mind all that much unless it was really loud.

For the first link i didn't hear anything, but if you turn the volume all the way up, and listen closely, you can also hear it sometimes..

glad my powerbook doesn't make that noise, i can barely hear it even when the fans are on...

My first MacBook had the moo sound. My replacement, for a screen reason, does not moo, it's more of a soft moan, but it happens at the same temp/CPU load as the first, so this maybe a hardware issue since the new one is barely noticeable but is still happening.

K, I didn't hear much of anything in that video, but that sound clip definitely sounds like a cow...

iBooks have had this problem for years. Why are people shouting out about it now?
