Last month I received a notice I was almost out of allocated bandwidth (1.25 TB) for the month which I didn’t think much of. Earlier this month I received another email saying I’ve already used up 50% of my bandwidth and I was only 10 days into the billing cycle. After digging around my firewall logs, I noticed the domain c.apple.news was consuming a significant amount of bandwidth, anywhere from 40-120+ Gb per day. I did some searching around and came across this thread on the official Apple forums. Turns out, several people are experiencing this issue when iCloud syncing is enabled for Apple News on macOS. After turning it off, it seems to have fixed the issue.
Figured it would be worth posting here to spread the word in case anyone else is running into the same issue. I’ve submitted the issue to Apple but who knows where those submissions end up. Hopefully it gets fixed in the next macOS Big Sur update.
