Hello All,

I have just bought a Mac Mini. I am wanting to host my own email server on the mini. I am wondering what software is available to install that will do this. Something that is nice and easy to install would be prefered.

Hope you can help.

Terry

Not sure if you needed a free option, but Kerio (http://www.kerio.com) is an easy email server and pretty feature rich. Beware: it is not ready for Snow Leopard right now.

Do you want an email server or do you want an exchange alternative? Not really the same thing at all.

I agree, I use google apps for business and it handles like an Exchange Server. I have it synced to multiple computers and my iPhone. It's been great for Calendaring, Mail, address book, and documents. The only problem that I had with google apps is if you ever decide to make a website their suite does not support FTP and you have to use their proprietary website building app. Instead of messing with it and DNS i just bought a new domain through godaddy. Seriously, who doesnt use FTP?

You might find Address Book Server a usable alternative as well. It lets you sync contacts and calendars between macs and allows access to your data via the web too. http://www.addressbookserver.com

This is not to be confused with the Address Book Server included in Snow Leopard. Unlike Apple's offering this supports 10.4 and 10.5 clients and you can even run the server on an old(er) linux box
