I have a 64gb 3g iPad I got delivery Friday. Has not been opened because I was away for the weekend. Now thinking about it, I think I want to exchange to the 16gb 3g iPad because I just don't have that much media (music and video) data! Would save me $200 dollars.

I know I can exchange by RMA returning to Apple Online Store (it is not opened so no restocking fee) but will they let me downgrade exchange this at the Apple retail store (one near my work)? That way I would save some time with the return, mailing cost, and ordering a new model..

Yes, you should be able to do an exchange IF they have a 16GB in stock. Alternatively, you could return and get on the wait list. Supposedly this is faster than ordering online.

I called a local store today and they confirmed they will exchange an iPad purchase from the online store if they have the stock.

Also, they will take a wifi only iPad purchased from the online store OUTSIDE of the 14 day policy if you want to upgrade to a wifi+3G.

I was curious and told them my wifi only iPad was received at my home from the online store on Apr 3rd and as of today, more than a month later they would allow me to box it up and bring it in charging me the restock fee in addition to the $129 price difference.

Pretty cool. I'm still testing my 4g from clear so it's nice to know I have that option. Should I decide to cancel clear and return my hardware I can take that money along with my wifi only iPad to my apple store and leave with an iPad 3G for $200. Which is less than I paid for my clear spot mobile router, 4g USB stick and one month of service.
So a very cool option. All depends on if they have stock and if I decide to ditch clear.
