Exchange Calendars and Outlook 2011

My entire MS exchange connectivity in the dump. Can't calendar and can't use Outlook 2011 since "upgrading" to El Cap. Tried removing the Exchange acct from Calendar and re-adding. Gave me options of calendar, notes, reminders, yadda yadda and selected calendar. Added it and zip, nada, nothing - not even a check box to turn off and on contents. All I get with O2011 is a bouncing ball when stuck on sync - maybe too many days at the beach dreaming up the new beach ball and not enough time in the test lab.

Very disappointed in this release - so much promise yet so far away to the point almost of rolling back to yesterday.

This has been around for all the betas of El Capitan. It happened to me and I had to revert back. Outlook 2011 crashes, iCal cannot connect to Exchange accounts, etc... this was reported to Apple way back in April.

Doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the OS. It's Office 2011. It's been like that during the betas. It's up to Microsoft to update Office 2011, however since 2016 is out they are most likely concentrating on that.

Calendar.app is working properly with my company's Exchange 2010 server on my MacBook Air with El Cap. Outlook 2011 has frozen when trying to sync since I installed a late beta. I was hoping the issue would be resolved in the El Cap release, but no go. Since Microsoft has extended support for Office 2011 until 10/10/17, I expect them to fix this.

For those who can't wait and are willing to install Office 2016, the latest version of Outlook does work with Exchange under 10.11. I installed it on my computers at work and am continuing to use the 2011 versions of the other Office apps.

@simon - yeah, my thoughts exactly - revert or wait........ for how long? SMH too...

Glad at least I can still use my Calendar on iOS - otherwise, start up my Fusion and run Windows 10 with Outlook

I don't know offhand, but will ask tomorrow. I suspect that it's the most recent SP, though.

Use Mail until it's fixed. You might find you like it better. You have to turn on a lot of hidden features to make it more like Outlook.

That's fine for email - in fact, I use Mail as my email client - but that doesn't help for Exchange's calendar functions. Unfortunately, Calendar isn't a suitable Exchange calendar client. In fact, even Outlook doesn't support all the features its Windows counterpart does (for example, you can't set different time zones for event start and end times, as you might need to do for a flight), but it's the best solution available.

I found this on another forum and so far... its working for me. In fact, essentially all I did was immediately go offline and then after checking my settings as the author suggested below, I went back online about 10 secs. later and it worked. No spinning beach balls, email downloaded, repeated send/receives and able to send mail. As an aside, my sync services were not checked as expected.

I have not closed my outlook either .

Still found no solution on my Apple Calendar sync with Exchange, but maybe off/on scenario may work there as well.

The successful action for me was:

• Open Outlook and immediately go offline (top left - menu bar - select outlook and scroll down to Work Offline).
• I kept it offline for about 10 minutes while I checked the account info and other preferences were okay (in particular, made sure my Sync Services had nothing ticked, and it did not, so that wasn't the problem).
• Then I went back to Online.
• And it worked - all my mails started coming in. It's still working and no spinning wheel at all. And it's now faster than Outlook was on Yosemite.

Don't know if it was the result of just repeating the action of removing the account and adding it (like I did previously that didn't work) or including both the calendar and reminders. I am guessing including both. Or, at least to the state it previously was in, e.g. if you had both calendar and reminders set before the upgrade, you need to set them the same if you remove and add the account. I don't know - its bizarre - but thats what has worked for me SO FAR.

And really should have done this by now given that these issues were known back in the 10.11 beta days.
