The guy at the Apple store said that the iPhone security profiles we use in my company should work with my iPad.

I noticed that you cannot sync those through iTunes. Not surprised there. But with it being Saturday I won't be able to test this out until Monday when I talk with our IT guys.

Anyone already done this though? I'm hoping to be a step ahead of our IT guys who will likely get a fair amount of questions come monday.

The Exchange software should be exactly like a 3.1 iPhone. So, if your security profiles work for your phone, they should work for the iPad. I'm confused, what sort of policy/profile do you have questions about? (I run our Exchange servers, and will probably be getting an iPad Monday... Can't wait for my 3G!)

Sorry for the non-technical response. It is a security profile that IT had me install on the phone. Once it was installed all of the exchange settings were all in place. Most importantly I could get push email without having to be on our VPN.

It also set up security to get the iPhone on our WiFi.

I have a feeling I just need to get a copy of that profile and install it on the iPad.

You're probably talking about a profile created with the Apple program for this. I tried that back when but abandoned it because Exchange is self-configuring when set up correctly. :). You should only need to enter your email address, password and perhaps domain.

But if you're folks want to use the Apple config file, I've not looked at the new version of the program to see if it's mandatory to re-create the profile for the iPad. I suspect it is. The new version has been out for a while, and it should be pretty simple for them to recreate it with the same settings for the iPad.

Hope that helps!

Yup that sounds like it. I think you still need that configuration utility if your company uses a VPN and you want push email.

You need to use your VPN just for email?! Yeah, then you need the profile for the VPN details. Sounds like they really have things locked up! If there's no legal reason for that, it's really not needed for security, as Exchange Activesync uses SSL very seamlessly.

Don't get me started. :)
