Hey guys, I purchased a macbook pro 13 inch completely loaded on november of 2015. Now every time I am playing a game or watching videos for a while and the fan kicks in it lags really bad. Normally on my game i get around 50 fps and it drops to 13 or 15 max 20. Now I contacted apple support and they ask me to restart my computer and it worked fine but all i just need to do is record a moment when it happens. Now I do have extra apple care and i am still under the 1 year warranty either way. I was thinking about maybe if i can show that there is something wrong with this laptop i could exchange it but for a 15 inch one and pay the difference or something (maybe just get the one with a similar or lower value). If this possible? Under what circumstances do they approve this? thank you.

They might do, but they don't have to, after the 14 day return period they are only liable to fix a fault on the machine you own. My guess is they'll offer you a terrible trade in price for your machine. You'll be better off selling it and buying a refurb 15 inch.

Apple is not really made for gaming but good luck trying to have them exchange it.

I don't see it happening either. As for the speed. It could be throttling due to temperature if you're not experiencing other issues. So I would start by making sure you're not placing the Mac on a cloth or linen surface such as a bed or table with a cover.

Sell your 13" rMBP on Craigslist and use the money towards the 15" rMBP you want.

Alternatively if gaming is your main concern, sell your Mac and buy a PC.

The only games I play on my Macbook Pro 13 is the Sims 4 and kotor 1 and 2. These fulfil my need while I am away from my main laptop a windows 10 machine

I doubt Apple would swap it out for you even in that event, best you'd probably get is a repair. Best option if you want the 15" is to probably sell your current MBP and buy the 15". Although that said, Macs in general are typically designed for productivity purposes with gaming as more of an after thought. Sure they might be able to play casual games no problem but unfortunately they just aren't designed for handle intensive games, even with the 15" with the dGPU. Not to mention the plethora of issues that tends to surround the dGPUs in Macbooks (Such as the 2011 15 and 17). Like others have said if you really want to game just buy a PC or if you want to stick with OSX maybe make a Hackintosh.
