Exchange Rates - Will they alter the change of the new iMac considerably?

Exchange rates have altered a lot since the current iMacs were released.

In Australia the exchange rate was nearly at parity with US dollars and hence computer imports were cheap, however since the global economic crisis it has depreciated to 0.67 cents per US dollar!!!! that is over 30% decrease.

Hence US products are now dearer in Australia, SO my QUESTION is do you think Apple will adjust the prices to a large degree, e.g. the current top of the line iMac (3.06GHZ) is $2999 in Australia, will it go up to about $3999 or even $4999??? with the new model?

I am just thinking maybe i should just buy the current $2999 iMac NOW rather than wait and pay an extra $1000 or so dollars for the new one just because of exchange rate movements over the past 5 months .... then get snow leopard separate ...

I am willing to pay $500 more but not over as then Apple computers would be just a total expensive rip off, i can build an excellent machine for $3500 !


Any thoughts/opinions?

Something similar happened here in Canada where the exchange has gone from par to .79 US. And yes, the prices of Macs in local currency are going up here incrementally with time.

Yea Apple will make all prices equal. eg. in UK high end iMac costs 1399£ (?) which is ~1470€. It costs same as 20" high end, and that's ridiculous.

Best price to in Turkey. Current top of the line iMac 3.06GHZ is $3500 in Turkey. What a price!

When the new MacBooks were announced, they dropped the price of the white MacBook in the USA by $100.

In the UK, the price actually increased by £20 due to the lower exchange rate.

This is one thing i am worried about when getting my new imac.

The current top end imac costs £1,359 in the UK and $2,199 in the US.

However if you run the numbers using the current exchange rate you get £1,539.

I am on a tight budget as is and an update may push my preferred selection out of reach. If the low end graphics are on par/better than the current 2600 pro then i'll be happy with that though.
