Exchanged My iPhone - New Service Agreement?

I've got my iPhone on release day, been finding deal pixels, and so finally exchange that unit today at my local Apple store. They swapped out my original sim card into the new unit and I was on my way home.

When I got home, I hooked up the new iPhone to my MBP, iTunes took me through the activation and service agreement pages again! It asked for my wireless number, zip code, and have me agree to a 2-year agreement. I already agreed to a 2-year contract and so do I have like total of 4 years contract with this new unit? Any of you had this experience after exchanging your iPhone?

LOL it's not 4 years. They don't add it on to an existing deal, they replace it. So it's 2 years from your "new" activation date. I know this because I swapped out my 4GB for an 8GB ont he 14th day at the AT&T Store Some may say I am crazy, but I didn't have to pay the $49.90 restocking fee, so it worked out for me

That make sense that it would be a replacing the 2-year agreement that I did on my old iPhone. BTW when you had to activate your new unit with OLD sim card, did you have to go through the agreement screens and input your wireless number/ SSN#?

I still dont understand why you must keep your old sim card when the phone is exchanged, when you sill still need to go through activation again anyways.

if they didn't swap out the sim card, would you really want the apple store to have a phone with your sim, able to make phone calls and whatnot with it? maybe you might be ok with that, but i imagine others wouldn't.
