Hi there!

I currently have an iPad Pro 12.9” (2021) 256 GB since the release date (I preordered on Apple.com) and I thought 256 GB would be sufficient but after loading it with apps and media, its starting to get cramped. I should’ve sprang for at least the 512 GB or 1 TB (Maybe 1 TB just for the RAM? Haha. But I am not a power user). I would like to exchange my 256 GB for either one but unfortunately they are sold out till July. Plus, my 14 day return period is coming to an end. This iPad replaced my only laptop that I no longer own so returning it and waiting is not an option. Any ideas what I can do?

Thanks guys!

I advise you to check in the morning.. daily. As @loybond mention… Apple tends to restock in the morning.

Thanks guys! I will definitely check tomorrow morning. Let’s hope I find one before Friday! I did some research and it looks like I can connect an external drive to the iPad but unfortunately it depends if the App supports it. Plus lugging a drive might become a pain especially if you forget it. ?

Also, once you initiate the return, you have two weeks to actually send the iPad back - so even if you can’t find one by Friday, you’ll still have some time.

Stock is pretty plentiful these days. In fact, people who still got June/July delivery dates should consider canceling if they have an Apple Store nearby.

I just checked in the Los Angeles area. 12.9 128-512GB seem to be available in one form or another. Alas, no 1-2TB in sight.

In my city, stock for the WiFi versions often pops up in the in-store pickup option especially for the more expensive ones (1TB and 2TB). But it seems to be another story for the 5G version.

You don't have to be a power user to have lots of storage. I use it as a consumption device. I have the 2TB model. Lots of movies, TV shows music and audiobooks at my disposal without having to stream.
Yeah, I know. I just don't use RAM demanding apps currently but I've been hearing the 16 GB RAM still helps as it keeps more apps/tabs open without reloading so that helps with multitasking. Anyway, I'm leaning towards the 1 TB model since I plan on keeping it for years.

Got it. I didn't mention that the laptop I no longer own was traded in for credit for the iPad. Does that complicate things? Like if I were to find that a store has some iPad Pros in stock, I would like to reserve one immediately online. That would mean I would be doing a new order and not an exchange and would have to pay full price online. Can I just take the iPad to the store and ask them to refund the initial purchase and adjust the new order with the trade-in credit from my initial purchase? I don't want to lose my trade-in credit or get a gift card to spend on something else. I want it applied to the new iPad order. I used my Apple Card for my initial purchase if it helps.

I just checked the online Apple Store and some 11 inches just became available. They were unavailable a few hours ago. Do they restock in the afternoon too? Unfortunately, I want the 12.9" model which is still unavailable. ? I will check again in the morning.

Yes. If you return the iPad directly, they’re only able to refund you (iPad price - trade in value) on your credit card, then they will refund the rest (trade in value) as an Apple Store gift card. So you won’t get a full cash refund.

Update: I've been checking the stock daily for the 1 TB model and it is still unavailable near me. ? I've decided to just return my 256 GB and wait. And while I wait, my friend loaned me his old laptop so I can still do some work. Fingers crossed that one will pop up soon!

2nd Update: I finally scored a 1 TB model this Wednesday! Been checking daily and apparently my store restocks every Wednesday according to one of the staff. (which is weird since I thought they restock daily)
