Hi,

I am looking for trading my MBP 15" Mid 2017 with Touch Bar 2,8Ghz i7 16Gb 256 SSD
Radeon Pro 555, 2048 Mt, Intel HD Graphics 630, 1536 Mt to a MBP 13" Late 2016 with Touch Bar 2.9Ghz i5 and 512 SSD. Video card for the MBP 13" is Iris Graphics 550. So my question is, how much should I get money in addition for this exchange?

Does this MBP 13" runs video editing apps well as FinalCut Pro or Adobe Premiere. I think I wouldn't have to edit 4k videos necessary but at least 1080p.

Thanks.

Your current MBP will be a lot better at editing videos than the one you're looking to get. The 2016 model will be capable of doing some editing, just might hang back and take a bit longer to edit and export.

If your main reason for doing this trade is hard drive space, I'd highly recommend sticking with what you have and adding an external hard drive in the mix. Whatever way you look at it, this is a downgrade for you (except for SSD space)

As far as how much money you should ask for, it's hard to say. The machines probably had a price gap less than $1000 between each other.

Hello Nbd1790,

Thank you for your message.I try to clarify this a little bit. I would have a couple of reasons to trade this one.

The reasons are:
- I am an university student and I don't know if this one is too expensive for me
- For now I am just using this to help me with my studies. So for this use, I don't need this good computer
--> But if I start editing I would like to have enough specs so lags etc wouldn't drive me crazy
- The hard drive space isn't a problem for me, I can buy an external hard drive.
- The spare money I would get from this, I would use to buy some camera gear
- I am a kind of stingy person, so I would be fine with much less.

I live in Europe so he offered me a 450€ in addition. That is too low IMO. His computer is 2 years old vs mine is 1.2 years old. Also the battery cycle count for his MBP is 174 vs mine 71.

What if I would want to buy a 13" MBP, what specs or which year version would be fine for me for my use? It can be used so older models are an option also.

If you were going to get a 13 inch, I would recommend getting a 2018 13 inch. The processors are far superior to the 2016 & 2017 13 inch models. In most cases, Macs are long term investments, so I would always recommend getting the best configuration you can afford especially if you intend to start editing any form of media.

Again, the computer you have is a very capable machine. I would highly recommend hanging on to the one you have and save up a bit longer for some camera gear. Good luck

Thank you @Nbd1790 for your message.

My plan is to start vlogging this summer and film training videos etc so it wouldn't be that hard editing at the end. But maybe I should stay with this one. Again, thank you for your point of view on this.
