By the time uni is over today (live in Australia) my mac mini will be here. I am beyond excited and nervous at the same time. Will I like it? Ive been a PC person all my life will I be able to adjust? LOL I really really hope I like it. Hunting around today for people to upgrade the memory on the mini (really wish I would have gotten apple to do it while I was there) but I am very excited. Just had to share

Congratulations on the purchase :D . I am sure you will really like the mini, mine amazed me, and is much faster than any PCs my family owns.

Faster than the PC? AWSOME!!!!!!

I second that. My "family" has a Dell 8400 3.0Ghz Pentium 4 maxed out at 1GB RAM. I swear that the mini seems faster. no joke.:)

I switched to OS X in December of this year and it was the easiest thing ever. It takes 10 minutes of playing around to understand the basic layout of the OS. It just makes sense.:) Anyway, enjoy your mini, I'm sure you'll love it. If you ever have any questions, feel free to post them here.

Good Luck, Kevin

Thanks so much guys :) Ever since I found this site I've wanted to make the switch to a mac and today is the day. I might have a few questions reguarding sharing files if thats ok after I set up the network. I have to move my old PC to mums room and set the mini up here but my old computer has all the mp3s work etc so I will need to access it from the mini

I posted this in another thread,

I sold my dual 2.5ghz G5 amnd bought a Mini 1.66ghz w/1gb RAM to tide me over until the new 'MacPros'. I must say, I had never seen a Mini in person before, never used one but I decided to buy it. Three days in, this thing is sweet!! Soooo quiet, it's literally too quiet, I was use to my 9 fans wailing away making noise and the Mini is barely audible in a 'normal' setting. It's rock solid, although, I wish I coughed up for 2gb RAM, but I didn't want to pay Apple Canada's price and I didn't want to risk damaging it, so I ordered it with 1gb .

Front Row is really cool too! I have a 23" screen so kickin back and watching rv shows, movies, music is awesome! It's so freakin' small, I can palm it in one hand. Awesome stuff:D

Just to let everyone know I'm getting a 1gb stick put in :D do you think this will improve the quality?

It will definitely improve the experience of using it.

i'm a first time mac user and i got my mini about a little over a month ago. I love it. But, i would deffinately recommend on getting more memory. I don't find 512 being sufficient enough for the applications. I can run at most like 5 applications some days while others like 3.

I have had two mini's, and I liked both of them. As someone else mentioned, they are SUPER quiet, and you should add more RAM. (It will run pretty poorly with less than 1GB).

As far as speed goes, I have not been that impressed with the minis (In comparison to my AMD Opteron, my AMD 3200+, and my Dual PowerMac G4). I think that the hard drives (they use 2.5" notebook hard drives) and the video chipsets have been real bottlenecks. However, it should be fine for most day-to-day tasks.

I got mine with the 2GB and I'm glad I did. I hear 1GB is a vast improvement over 512MB though, and I can understand that.

I find that discussions about how quiet the Mac mini is are often, unintentionally, a little misleading. While I suppose it is 'quiet' it's not really that quiet considering it's insides consist basically of a mid-range laptop with no screen. All the laptops I own are quieter than the Mac mini, even my old Dell with dedicated nVidia graphics.

I only say this because, I felt, it has been the only let-down so far after prolongued ownership. If I hadn't have read about how quiet people think the mini is then I'd not have expected it to be. Hell, some reviews call it silent, and it's just not! I could more than understand people who have these in their rooms wanting to turn them off at night.

Ooer, that all went a bit rantish. Not to worry, it's over now :D

My Mini is quiet in comparison to the loud PCs back home - But they are power houses, so I guess it’s an unfair comparison.

Still, all good for me.

Congrats on your funky purchase.

My mac mini was meant to arrive but only the apple care arrived! Apparantely its meant to arrive tomorrow :( The stupid truck guy didnt put it in his van

I'm in the same boat as you. I ordered another macbook because my father needs a portable and he can take my old one and it shipped in a total of SEVEN business days!! Seven business days + 1 weekend = almost 10 days from the day of order when it said on the website that usually ships in 1-3 business days -_- Not only that, when they finally did ship it they miscalculated the estimated delivery date and it got held up for another couple of days!!! It finally left China on the 28th and uptil now I've seen no updates whatsoever on fedex tracking.

Man, will it ever come :(:(:( Oh and congrats on your new mac, hope you love it, I know i did mine :D

well just remember that the delivery date doesnt mean from manufacture to you it means from manufacture to shipper. you have to rely on the shipper's estimated delivery date.

I guess I am mostly comparing this to the first one I ordered which arrived within the week I had ordered it. This one is taking forever. But I suppose logically you are correct.

Well I rang up Apple and they said that it was the truck guy that he didnt put it in his truck because I recieved my apple protection plan and no mini! I'll have to wait till Wednesday to do my memory upgrade :( oh well

If you live in Melbourne, Streetwise sell good RAM for good prices. And their great with help, etc. ive been going there since i was a youngen, and have had no problems with them.

Slightly on topic, at Streetwise, they have a corner of the shop set out with a computer, a keyboard and some good speakers connected. They usually have an iMac or a Powermac, so out of interest, i walked over to see what they had. The display was black, so i figured it must have been a PowerMac. When i looked, there was no PowerMac! I looked closer, and found this tiny Mac connected to a big display. I've been a user of Macs since birth, and I still cannot believe a computer exists which is so small. Then again, I'm typing this on my 13" dual core MacBook, on my legs :p

I dont need to tell you to enjoy your Mac Mini. You will anyway :D

Haha cant wait till this afternoon! (have a feeling it will come around 3:30 :() I rang my brothers old computer shop he used to own and the guy in charge of mac repairs was still there! He said a 1gb would be 250 then I said I'm my ****s sister and he's like oh ill do it for 200 for ya. So if it gets here early enough today ill go down there if not ill go tomorrow.
