Is there anyway to go directly back to the home screen when you exit the app? IMO, it's really inconvenient for the home button to take you back to the folder, since it is less likely you want to select another app there rather than go back to the home screen.

Yeah, this has been around since folders have been around basically, as some similar threads from years ago show, like https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/folder-doesnt-close-when-app-is-launced-why.971491/

There are various jailbreak tweaks that will take care of it (if there's a jailbreak available and the device is jailbroken), but that's about it.

You know what's really weird? Ever since iOS 10, sometimes when I exit an app in a folder, it DOES go straight back to the home screen instead of the folder. Maybe one in every 20 times or so. It's almost certainly just a glitch, but every time it happens, I think to myself how cool it would be if this were a setting I could actually enable instead of just a glitchy fluke.
