Hi, I'm looking to expand my to get more out of it.

To date I've used a basic USB 3.0 hub, but I'm wondering if I can make good use of a USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 hub / dock with an > Thunderbolt 2 adaptor (obviously limited by Thunderbolt 2 bandwidth).

I've found one of these cheap. Is this likely to co-operate via an adaptor?

Any other recommendations? I don't want to spend too much.

Thanks...

Well I think I've got a fundamental misunderstanding of TB ports. It won't work with USB devices will it! So now I realise I need a TB2 or TB3 dock/hub..

That one I've linked to suggests its TB3 "compatible", and the manual :

.. suggests (I'm not 100%!) that it's a Thunderbolt 3 device I quote : "System Requirements Hardware • Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C port"

Is this likely to work (inc 4K HDMI ports) with my trashcan and the Apple TB3>TB2 adaptor??

Thank you..

You need a Thunderbolt 3 (or 4) dock, not USB-C, and then connect it with Apple's TB2 to TB3 adapter. I've been meaning to get one so I can plug in TB3 hard drives. Make sure the dock is a powered one (with AC adapter) because some peripherals need power from the port and power doesn't transfer through Apple's adapter.
