Expanding Mailboxes in iOS 10

In previous versions of iOS, you would access your folders in your mailboxes by tapping on the mailbox below your unified folders and it would open up the mailbox and you could scroll through the folders. If you wanted to go back to the unified folders, you would just hit the "back" button and you would be there.

In iOS 10, you expand the mailboxes right there on the main mailbox screen to scroll through your folders. Now if you want to go back to your unified folders, you need to scroll back up through all your expanded mailbox accounts. I find this to be quite annoying and time consuming, especially when all my mailboxes are open and considering how many folders I have.

Is there a quick way back to the unified folders? Does anyone else find this to be a pain?

I thought this was a problem at first but I worked around it by collapsing everything. I have five mailboxes and then have the inboxes at top and the five collapsed mailboxes at the bottom. If I want to use a folder in one mailbox, I expand it at the bottom and, when done, tap on the mailbox to collapse it again.

Does that help or am I missing your point?

That is what I'm doing, but if am in a folder at the very bottom of a mailbox, you then need to scroll all the way back to the top, which can be a pain especially if you have a large number of folders. Previously, you just hit the back button on the top left to jump back to the unified inbox.

Just a suggestion, but as in Safari (and I guess everywhere else as well) in Mail you can tap the top of the screen (I forget what the bar with the time and battery indicators is called in English), and up you go. No scrolling required.

Would this be helpful, or am I misunderstanding the problem?

That trick doesn't work in the Mail app though.

For instance, I have 4 email accounts and each of them has a huge list of folders (I save and organize all my emails, well, almost all of them). If I've expanded one or more of the email accounts or even if I only have one expanded and I happen to be at the bottom of that email account, there is no easy way to get back to the top to the unified mailboxes. This is if I have gone in to view an email in a folder. In order to back out of the folders, you can tap on the parent folder in the top left of the mail app until you are out of the subfolders. You then need to scroll to get back up to the unified mailboxes.

In the previous versions of iOS, once you got back to the parent folder, you can then tap on the back bottom at the top of the Mail app and that would get you back to the unified mail folders as well as the listing of your accounts. You couldn't scroll right from one mail account to another like you can now.

Where are you tapping on the screen? And are you on the screen where if you scrolled to the top it would be where the unified mailboxes are?

I just found the "sweet spot". You need to tap on the area where it shows the cell phone network. It will then jump to the top. If you tap on the blank area below the cell phone network, nothing happens.
