Anyone notice speed up in during boot up and shutdown on mountain lion ?? First few days I felt it was speed, but later it is the same time that used to take for lion X. Please let me know your feed back, may be I am expecting some thing I should not.

I have nothing to back this up but the fact that Apple will soon be selling all MBP's with SSD's as standard tells me that optimizing boot-up times are not any kind of priority. (I certainly wouldn't spend any time on it). Plus, there's power-nap and sleep mode so most users really have no reason to turn their machines off that often.

If you (or anyone else for that matter) are experiencing better boot times I suspect the upgrade (or clean install) merely took care of some needless clutter and performed general housekeeping.

My login is definitely slower. Logouts and restarts I haven't noticed...I think it might be related to my keychain and all the things now tied to it (facetime, messages, notifications, etc etc)...I don't even use those things...Anyway, I'm hoping the update can correct some of these issues...

I have also had mixed results with ML, startup is now right under 11 seconds(which is fantastic) but shutdown varies greatly... under lion it was at max 3 seconds... now it can take anywhere from 20-60secs to shutdown. Another issue I've seen is waking from sleep... most often it is instant-on, but other times, the display illuminates and I can view the desktop, but cannot move my mouse for up to 15 secs... odd seeing as this is a rMBP. I do have parallels installed and supposedly this can affect shutdown times, but uninstalled it and still experience slow shutdown times. Another culprit may be iRapp(rdp server).

Thanks for feed back, yeah, looks like mixed results with slowness of boot and shutdown times, but I do care about these delays and hope upgrades will take care of this.
But overall I like ML, with its new features, specially Air play. It is working great for me and I am loving this feature, the display and sounds are incredible.

While keeping my fingers crossed, I think I've escaped the hanging grey screen during shutdown since the 10.8.1 update. Startup for me is about 13 seconds from hitting the button to a usable desktop (with a quarter spin of the wheel), while shutdown now feels like one second or less.

I also disabled hibernate on my MacBook -- wake times are pretty much instant for me now, much like Snow Leopard, and the cursor no longer sticks for a few seconds. When I had hibernation enabled, I would wake to an annoying white screen that would stay that way for 3-6 seconds under Mountain Lion.

Does the 10.8.1 update make a difference for you?

Edit: I agree with gnipun's post on another thread; when applying the update, OS X automatically checked the box to re-open applications, and then cleared the checkbox on subsequent restarts. Perhaps checking the box for one restart, followed by unchecking the box for subsequent restarts, makes the difference?
