For those of you who have had to exchange your new iPad at Apple (less than 30 days old) due to defects were you given a new iPad on the spot? By new I'm meaning an original unwrapped box with cord etc. I was told at Apple they have to order from California a new iPad (it would take 5 days to a week) and that it would be in a different box, but they assured me it would be brand new, not refurbished. It just wouldn't include the cord etc. They said that's how they do replacements now. In my case my iPad was bought this Christmas Eve and it was returned because it had what they told me at Apple was a swollen battery that could burst, no less.

This is different from my past years experience with Apple where I was simply given a new one on the spot if I was within 30 days of buying. They had new ones in stock, but said they couldn't give me one, they had to send out for a new replacement box. They assured me it wouldn't be refurbished and even said they no longer give refurbished iPad's in store. I'm curious, if you have returned a new iPad recently was this also your experience?

I'll repost from your other thread.

If you had bought from Apple, they should've replaced it on the spot as well (14-day return policy, extended for the holidays).

If you did buy from Apple and they refused to exchange it, ask to speak to a manager. The policy for the 14-day returns and 1-year warranty are different. You can return for any reason during the return period. Or just return for refund and buy a new one.

Now if buying from another retailer and trying to exchange at Apple, that's covered by the 1-year warranty so different rules apply. I've never received a brand new retail version when I've had to do warranty exchanges. That said, replacement devices seem readily available at the store I go to (in California :p).

Thanks for your reply, rui no onna. They way he explained it to me, this was the procedure for all replacement iPads now. I was skeptical and asked them if I had bought it at Apple would you give me a replacement now and he said the procedure would be the same. Hmm. Maybe he didn't know what he was talking about, I'm not sure.

Anyway, I filled out their survey and requested a call back. If not, I'll follow up with a manager and see what they say. Might also consider having Best Buy order me another one. My bad luck that I got a second defective unit and they are out of stock of the model I have now at Best Buy.

I’ve been given bad advice by Apple geniuses in the past. Thankfully, that hasn’t happened recently.
