Experience with Notes on ios 11 (iPad)

hello.

It seems like no in Real in depth overview of the new Notes app on the iPad. All that is being shown is the scanner and signature ability. I really don't care about that. But what I'd like to see and know more about is how the class noting experience is compared to apps such as Notability and GoodNotes. As I understand there should be a "lines" template that nobody barely talks about. What about grids? I'd love to see someone sharing their experience of it. can I write on the lines with the pencil as done on Notability and GoodNotes? And what about mixing it with a text box over or within a drawn text/figures? And can i select/move drawned stuff? I also dont understand why the ruler has been removed, it was the most used tool on ios 9-10.

I don't have an iPad Pro or pencil, but if you want me to look at anything I can do on my Air, I'll gladly do so.

Text input does conform to the lines and "in-line pencil use" is definitely a feature, though I can't use it for the above reason.

I’ve been waiting for lines and grids in the Notes app for a long time. They do finally have them, although the options are limited (and the way of using them is really convoluted - choosing a line template is done through the share sheet). Yes, you can write over them as in other apps, and the default grid spacing is a good size for my use. You can also insert a text box or a sketch as a separate overlay - but again, the UI is very confusing. Compared to Goodnotes where inserting, moving, resizing any element is very straightforward.

The ruler hasn’t been removed - it is still accessible when you do a sketch overlay. I have no idea why it’s not also available in the regular drawing mode.

Overall this is a big improvement for Notes, but Goodnotes/Notability are still a better choice.

Im happy to hear that it has improved a lot, i really hope Apple will attempt to make it the best note app out there. Instead of waiting every 12 months to release a new feature for the sake of publicity, they need to consistently improve it with each update so it actually can compete with the Notability. Do you have anything you could share like screenshots with grid sheet and writing notes on it, or something... just so I can see it visually? i can't find anything through google or YouTube demonstrating it.

I had no idea about the lines and grids in share sheet - thanks! This will be really useful.

I was wondering why they did not add this feature especially with the penci support improvements... turns out they finally did!

Thank you so much for sharing this! It's nice to see what it actually looks like. I see what you mean, it doesn't look fully completed. I may go with notability, even though it doesn't have the search-word feature that Apple notes have.
