Experiences getting a upgraded mac mini fixed under warranty?

So according to the warranty info, upgrading your mini yourself will not void it, what it says is if you break anything while doing the upgrade, then it's your problem.

Of course, that's pretty open to interpretation for Apple to deny warranty claims if they want to, so I'm asking for anyones experience with getting an upgraded mini covered. I have an upgraded hard drive in my late 09 mini, worked fine for months after the upgrade, so I can say with certainty the problem is not related. Lately, my dvd burner has been having problems, it will seem toburn a single layer dvd, but be unable to verify it at the end, and using the dvd will uncover errors. Dual layer dvds will not burn at all, I get an error about the burner being unable to set the power level for this type of media as soon as I try.

So, anyone try getting warranty work with an upgraded mini?

I have a late 2009 Mini also. Many threads here suggest, as you must know, to just put it back to stock before taking it back to Apple, even if under Applecare.

Since an SD is so cheap, I was thinking if your problem is isolated to that piece of hardware, why not just replace it yourself and forget Apple. In this way you do not have to take out the HDD and/or RAM that you personally upgraded.

Some of these contributors must know of a way or ways to check hardware and software in order to isolate your issue without removing anything.

So, anyone try getting warranty work with an upgraded mini?

Not a mini but I have never had any problem with upgraded iMacs and Macbooks when the problem was not related to an upgraded part. If your DVD burner is the original part it should be covered. You can't lose anything by trying.
