Experiences with Motion on MacBook

Hey, anyone have any firsthand experiences they'd like to share about running Motion on a MacBook? I recently went to my local Applestore and saw they had Final Cut Studio loaded on a black MB, and I wouldn't mind going that route myself. Just wondering what others thought about this and how well it performed in their opinion. Thanks.

Motion, if I recall correctly, was one of Apple's first apps to take advantage of hardware acceleration and CoreImage. According to Apple's own hardware requirements page, it requires a Mac with a "real" video card, and not the Intel 950 GMA.

Really, though, the MacBook Pro isn't so much more than a black Macbook, and Motion probably screams on it.

Absolutely. The reason I was initially curious about this is because of my story with the Apple store above. I can't believe that they would defy "The Apple" and go ahead with an install of Final Cut Studio on the MacBook.

Since I always wondered about this, I fired up Motion and ran it side-by-side with the MBP. There are little tech demos included with Motion that high-end ad agencies actually created. I decided to run a Pontiac G6 demo on both computers at the same time. It was very interesting to see.

Of course the MBP ran as smooth as ever. But surprisingly, the MacBook kept up alright, seemingly running around 20fps. Plus, the employee who watched with me reminded me that other applications were open (I forgot I had Final Cut Pro open) and that the notebook had only 1 gig of ram. What if there were 2 GB with no other apps open? I'm curious as well as seriously considering one of these computers.

So anyway, I'm heading back home this weekend so I'm going to go back to the Apple Store and play around some more, maybe take some notes. I'll report back shortly.
