Hi Everyone,

I have been reading up as much as I can on the upcoming iCloud launch but can't find enough info for my situation.

I had the paid version of MobileMe for a few years then let it expire. I haven't used it for a year or so but my MobileMe email address is also the apple ID. I try to log into iCloud on ios 5 but I get the error, This paid MobileMe account has expired.

My question is will I be able to use my old MobileMe address once the full launch happens? I would love to have the same address if possible.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help.

I believe that you should be able to to do this.

Although the subscription has expired you still have the Apple ID and there have already been reports of expired MobileMe accounts being migrated to iCloud. So long as you have the login details and can still get to the account through the Apple ID login page you'll be fine.

Ultimately we'll know more at the end of summer/autumn.

yup, it's in the official transition document that you can do this. doesn't help me tho as my expired mobileme has nothing to do with my Apple ID and i won't be allowed to merge it. damn them lol

I appreciate the reply! I was excited when I read that expired accounts were migrated to iCloud but it hasn't happened for me.

When I log into the web MobileMe app I can see that my subscription is extended to 2012 but a pop up comes up advising my paid account has expired.

I would love to hear if anyone in this situation has been migrated to iCloud. I have a feeling I will retain my old me.com address but you never know.

Interesting. I have another apple ID that has my app store purchases but I'm more concerned about getting my old email address. A bit of a mess with all these ID's.

So anyway around the paid account has expired error in IOS 5 so we can use our old me.com address?

*** update *** just tried it tonight and it worked, my old me address was moved to iCloud.

1 issue, I get a username password error when I try to get mail through the mail app. The password is correct and I get all check marks when entering my ID in iCloud but I still get the error when in the mail app. Any ideas?

same thing happened to me - expired MobileMe trial (with the email address that I must have) that was transitioned to iCloud. Email is not functioning yet, but atleast I am able to access the account and no longer receive the "This is an expired MobileMe account" message.

I think your right. I sent a few emails to test if the address is active and it isn't. So it looks like they migrated the accounts but didn't activate the email address portion.

Waiting game...

An getting the same error. Took some days before my account was transitioned. I guess it will take a few more days before our mail user id is activated on the apple iCloud server
