Exporting movies to iPod problem

I have some music videos that came on commercially-purchased CDs. They are in MPEG1 format. When I play them in QuickTime, I get audio and visual; if I try to export them to other formats (like MOV or AVI), and click on Options, it says there is no audio track present. How can this be?? Is there a way to separate the audio and visual from the original MPEG movies so I can export it to video iPod?

If they are mpeg muxed files then QT does not support transcoding of audio in a muxed file. You could try VLC or one of several shareware/freeware demuxers.

What is a "muxed" file?

Open the file with Quicktime, then do a Window->Show Movie Info. It will tell you there if the file is muxed or not.

Muxed is short for multiplexed. In this context it means that audio and video are interleaved to form one stream. You use a demuxer to separate the audio and video. Then you can transcode and recombine - which is what you are trying to do.
