Hello.
I'm trying to export a Final Cut Pro video (that's around 4GB) to a new Seagate 4TB hard drive, but it keeps saying I don't have permission.

It's a new drive and I've formatted it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled), using Disk Utility.
I'm running Mac OS 10.15.7 on a 2019 MacBook Pro.

I have updated the permissions to ignore ownership (see below), but it still doesn't allow me to export it to the drive.

I've tried reformatting it, and I still have the same issue. I can drag and drop/save images or make folders with no issue.
It just appears to be with Final Cut Pro and is something I have never encountered before.

If you have any advice or suggestions, I'd really appreciate it.
Thank you.

Can you successfully drag&drop the 4GB video - or any other file in that size class - from the internal to the external drive?

What are the permissions on the folder you want to write to (finder/Get Info)

Try this:
1. Go to the finder
2. Locate the icon on the desktop for the WD drive
3. Click ONE time on the drive icon to select it
4. Bring up the "get info" box (command-i)
5. At the bottom of get info, click the lock and enter your password
6. Put a checkmark into "ignore ownership on this volume" (sharing and permissions)
7. Close get info.

Try saving the file now.
Any difference?

I could drag and drop any file, and the permissions for the drive and the folder were all read and write.

However I managed to find a solution.
I moved my Final Cut Pro project onto the Drive, and then tried to export and it worked.

I guess it’s a FCP issue and you can’t export a video to a location that doesn’t have the project.

Not sure why, but hopefully this helps people who also experience this.

Thank you all for commenting.
