Just sent an email to El Jobo asking if a 3 or 4 finger gesture could be used for an Expose like experience on iPad. I think it would alleviate any strain on that seemingly fragile home button, and I think it would be a much better way of multitasking. Not crazy about having to double click on home, but again that could just be for iPhone. Who knows.

The problem with using a gesture is that it means there is one less of them available to actual apps. Only Apple has access to the home button, so they can do whatever they want with it.

good point, but i'm willing to give up 4 fingers swipe for this feature. i think it could really streamline multitasking.

What makes you think the home button is fragile? I have an original iPhone that I use as an iPod touch, it's home button still works fine.

i had a 3g which barely clicks anymore at all, and my 4 month old 3gs is starting to go a little. maybe i've just had bad luck. ipad's feels the most solid; hopefully the build quality is better over the long term.

I really hope so too. It's much easier when ur using a large screen as well. How about 2 fingers on each side of the screen dragged down to get expose? Not many apps would require such a gesture right?

Yes, but how many of the other 450,000 people are willing to give up that? Or all the applications that would utilize it?

Note that I'm just saying. I would definitely take expose over any four finger or even three finger swipe feature that any application would use. If you gotta use four fingers to activate something in an application that's running on the iPad, then something is off.

Sketchbook Pro is an app which shows just how beautiful 3-finger gestures can be. Swipe down to pull up the brush and color editing menus, swipe up to bring up the layers window, swipe left to undo, swipe right to redo, tap to bring up the brush resize / opacity overlay--slide on that to resize the brush and change its opacity in real-time. All using three fingers, except after you've invoked the brush resize / opacity thing. Then you can use one finger and drag from the circle outward. It makes more sense when you use it then trying to explain it, and it's wonderful.

Four fingers seems more likely, but also more complicated for Apple to implement. I've been saying for a long time (well pretty much since launch) that iPad will get a dashboard or expose of sorts. Makes even more sense given the extra time until the iPad OS 4.1 update this Autumn. Gives Apple more time to implement these additional multitasking features. Also explains why they booted the dashboard apps from the App Store.

iPad OS 4.0 is delayed for a reason. It won't be the same as iPhone OS 4.0.

Let's just wait and see what Apple can do. :)

It's delayed because they will release OS 4.0 for iPad along with iPad v2 in the fall with more memory, i'd bet money on it. Theres no other reason to make us wait 6 months for stuff that should have been in the OS to begin with.

I'm willing to bet there will be no new iPad by Fall. Mark my words.

Jailbreak + Activator application will let you have this I hope.

I think swiping up from the bottom left/right/center should be pretty safe to use for anything.

OP, sometimes I think writing to Jobs for features is like writing to Santa Claus. lol. I'm not trying to troll or anything—I think about that every time I fill out the suggestion box.

Honestly, I would be fine with either home-button or 4-finger swipe. As long as the implementation looks like expose, I'm happy.
