Express cards for the MBP?

Just wanted to know what express cards can be used in the MBP? i.e apart from card readers what other types of card are there?

Also I know griffin do a card reader, are there any other manufacturers that make Express 34 card readers? I know the griffin does not accept the new SDHC cards. Just looking at what else I can buy before my MBP arrives!

Thnkas, surround sound cards -would this be the best way to get surround sound form your MBP?

There are also a few expresscard/34 solid state drives coming out (some now under $100?), though I hear conflicting reports on their actual speed.

Personally I use the optical output of the MBP to connect to a surround sound system. It sounds wonderful, and I was able to pick up the cable from the local electronics supply store for about $15 which is a lot cheaper than getting a new sound card.

Yup - assuming you have a receiver/preamp or a powered speaker system with optical inputs and a digital decoder, this is the best way.

You can plug an optical cable into the regular headphone jack. I would suggest to anyone doing this to not get a cheap cable. If you can find one get one that is metal and not plastic. I know a couple of people that bought the cheap ones and the plastic tip broke off in the port. Now they get no audio from the internal speakers. How can this be fixed you ask???? A new logic board!

yup. i use the the optical output to my sony 5.1 receiver. i actually didn't know that you could get surround sound from this, but i just recently bought some surround speakers, so i'm glad i actually looked into this and didn't go out and buy a surround sound card.

Goes into the same 3.5mm jack, but if you're connecting to a standard size TOSlink port, you just need a mini-TOSlink adapter.
