Hi all,

My father has a MacBook Pro 15" and he asked me about the ExpressCard/34 slot. He wants to know if he can insert some sort of converter so that he can use his Camera's Flash Drive in the computer without having to use the camera and a USB cable.

People done this? If so, can you chuck me a link to the device he needs?

Cheers.

If by "flash" you mean compact flash here you go: http://www.delkin.com/products/adapters/expresscard34/

If it is an ATA flash drive (PCMCIA card), the answer is no --there is not enough physical room in the Expresscard/34 socket for adapting to the PCMCIA card. In this case there are some external Firewire or USB PCMCIA card readers, but they are not particularly cheap.

If it is CompactFlash, SmartMEdia, SecureDigital or another more modern flash format, a $10 USB reader would be preferable.

If it's not CompactFlash, Belkin makes an ExpressCard/34 adapter that takes SD, XD, and a few others. It's nice, in that it fits flush with the side of the MBP - it can be left in the computer without worrying about it catching on something in your bag.

(I have one of these, and the Delkin CF adapter - both "patiently" waiting for the arrival of my 17" MBP C2D. maybe next week.....)
