ext enclosure

ATTO H644 card fitted.
Ext connection on card is mini sas.
Would like to know of best enclosure to take full advantage of sas and sataIII.
This would be for a non-raid install.
I have found some sas/sata enclosures but only for sataI or sataIII.

Just happen to have the same card. Are you also using the internal port? I am using the internal port and not the ext. Wondering what kind of numbers you are getting if using as internal RAID 0.

I don't have the same card, yours is a R644 and mine a H644.
I think your card does raid whilst mine does not, mine's what they call a host card.
I don't want raid but comparing your speeds to mine it's very tempting.
I used the internal port of the H644 to hook the 4 internal bays up to the faster speed of the sas.
I'll try and post my results, the write speed looks low. The test was on a OWC 120G SSD.
Tried to post but was denied, being a newbie might be the cause, anyway for your info on Disk speed test = write 212, read 405/

The drive may be the performance limiter, not so much SAS or SATA. The drive handles x throughput and y transactions regardless of interface.

You need a SAS drive to see SAS performance.

Depends on the OWC 120GB. If it is 6G Mercury Pro you will have higher writes but not on that Blackmagic test as it tests incompressible data. Sandforce looks real bad on the writes on that test. I'd say normal. Aja test is just sequential compressible and you'll see the full write speed (in the perfect condition OWC based their numbers on)
I have a Intel 520 (sandforce and faster than OWC) that gets 203MB/s writes on BM test and 260MB/s on Aja all SATA2 so it can't go far beyond 260 anyway. But that 203 will stay the same regardless of connection.

The SSD was a OWC Mercury Electra 6G.
AJA = write 337, read 464.
I would like the ext enclosure to have the same performance.
pc-pitstop looks to have suitable enclosures, the enclosure I thought ok (sataI/II) was $140 but the shipping was an extra $191. I might be able to find something similar here (aust) only cheaper.
As to finding a suitable enclosure I'm not sure what to exactly look for!
Using mini sas cable that supports 4 drives I thought a 4 bay with mini sas only connection.
Reading some specs of these units leaves me a little unsure, most I have looked at say the supported sata is I or II, I've only found one that said sataIII and that was expensive.
Just what should I be looking for?

Out of curiosity I searched "mini sas enclosure 4 bay". I see your dilemma in that the specs vary in info completion. Some:
1. Don't state the enclosure maximum capacity
2. State 6G or 3G
3. Don't state Drive interface I II or III
4. Don't use SFF-8088 ports
5. Don't state supported OS
6. Don't state compatible HBA or RAID cards

Try selecting a manufacturer, go to their site and see if there is a forum.
