Hi.
I have a sata 2 HDD from my old PC with some important information there. So i decided to use it like external. It capacity is 250 GB. I bought an external case for HDD sata to usb. The model of the case is Cooler Master Xport 351. When i connect it to my iMac mid 2010, Mac OS show me this message. What must i do to be capable to use it normally? I forgot to mention that the file system of the HDD is NTFS.

NTFS for Mac. This will allow you to read and write to an NTFS partition from within OS X.
I don't think this is the problem, as Mac OS X can natively read NTFS; it just can't write to it. The error message indicates the drive isn't readable at all.
You'll have to move the data to somewhere else before reformatting.
You can't move the data if you can't read the drive.

"the disk you inserted is not readable by this computer"

Thanks for the quick responses. I was afraid of that - formatting the HDD. So i must find a laptop and copy the important data.

Install NTFS-3G and then open disk utility to run a verification scan. I think that installing NTFS-3G will enable disk utility to run a native health check that might help.

Mac OS X can read NTFS natively. If the device were readable, they would be able to do so without installing NTFS-3G.

So you didn't read the posts about Data Rescue and Disk Warrior?

No, i read them, but the programs aren't free. Now i don't have much money to spend. I will make it the hard way - copy the importans staff and then format and hopefully after that everything will be fine.
