I bought a Macbook with extended warranty for 246 $$ from the store (Domayne) I bought it from provides for 48 months. Was this a good idea, or would Applecare of been a better idea?

If this warranty's actual service is as good as applecare, you made a good decision.

Applecare only extends your 1 year warranty to 3 years.

Depends entirely whether the organization you bought it from (quite often, not the store you thought you bought it from, but a warranty underwriter 1,500 miles away) treats you right when something goes wrong, how onerous the compliance with their terms and conditions is, whether their contracted service people are competent, how long it takes them to return your repair, how much they attempt to weasel out of delivering service.
