I'm thinking of getting the same setup
I'm getting the monitor first and the iMac second. May even see if the MacBook(iBook) has a decent graphics card and video output first. I too would prefer matching resolutions and sizes that line up well on my desk. I think I'm going with the
940MW. I had also considered the
215TW which is a 21" 1680x1050 and the
XR6-19DW 19" at 1440x900. Both of these options are pure black and would look nice on my desk with my white PSTwo next to the iMac and my black PSTwo next to the second black monitor.
I decided on the 940MW because it's measurements line up with the 17" iMac, it has an integrated tv tuner, the dvi port is HDCP compliant, I could actually use that scart port, and it is a multisystem tv. I also need a new TV and something to hook my 6 game consoles up to.

Samsung's wave of new monitors
If Apple made an HDTV it might look like these new Samsungs...
If you want a monitor on the cheap I would get the
Xerox. I've seen it in person and it is the most beautiful design I have seen that was not designed by Apple. The bezel is truely thin, seemless, and free of ugly buttons. Just a blue LED. You can find it for around $300, maybe $279.
