External AA battery pack

Hello folks,

I am flying on long distance flights for next couple of months and would like my 2G iPod touch to have enough juice to play the movies. There are many battery packs available but rather than getting a new battery pack, I liked this AA battery charger. Since I have a lot of rechargeable 2500mAh AA batteries lying around, this would be a very good one, if it really works.

Is anyone here using this? I wonder how long one set of 4 2500mAh batteries would last with 2G iPod touch if this gadget works well?

I have used the Energizer version before getting the Mophie Juice Pak and it seemed to do well. if you really want to get some AA power go get some Powerex 2700mah batteries. Thos things last forever.

The OEM ipod touch battery is somewhere between 750 and 1100 mAh by most estimates at 3.7V so 2.8 to 4.1 Wh. If you are looking at a 4 AA battery holder with 2500 mAH batteries (@1.2V each), you will have somethings like 12 Wh, so about triple the capacity of the internal battery.

My touch can watch movies for 4 to 5 hours on the internal battery, so with an external battery pack, it should be more like 16 to 20 hours (assuming minimal losses I don't know what if any electronics are in those battery pack chargers). I've never tried them personally though, all of these calculations are theoretical.

Thats a really good deal and thanks for pointing it out. Just the thing that I am in favour of using something that I can use for something else too.

Do you really think Mophine juice Pak price is justified? It looks cool for sure but the battery is only 1500mAh so does it really provide enough juice, as opposed to say the one I am considering or Energizer one that you used?

I didn't understand the calculation but this pretty much answers the question. Most of my flights are transatlantic so max 10 hours. Even a 2 battery charger would also do a job.

My only concern with my choice is, if airport security restricts me from taking batteries on-board since there is no hard-and-fast rule about it. In that case, cakbar's deal rocks.

I have an AA-battery addition (not that one, but I'm sure it works in more or less the same way) that I use on transatlantic flights, and it's great.

I've never had a problem with taking batteries on flights.
