External Blu-Ray Burner for 27" Imac?

I was taken with the new 27" imac and decided to go with the quad-core. I have been firmly anti-imac until now. The display sharpness is the best I've seen and easy to read if I zoom the safari text one notch. The new mouse took no getting used to and fits the hand perfectly. I thought the keyboard and mouse were wired until I realized it was a security cable. An Apple salesman quickly pointed that out.

For burning Blu-Ray video discs with Toast, has anyone had luck with a USB2 external burner, such as the Buffalo BRHC-6316U2? Is USB 2 fast enough?

Is it possible to burn Blu-Rays in OS X yet? USB2 is slow if you're burning big files but it's OK

I have an LG BE06LU10 (there is also a BE06LU20 available soon). It works with Toast 10 perfectly. I just burnt a single layer BD-R in just over 20 minutes.

Shame, no Blu-ray playback though :-(

Thanks; the LG looks good. I'm glad USB 2 works ok. I'm not concerned with playback.

Also, considering this is a rumors site...

I would say it's a fairly sure bet that the next Mac Pros will include blu-ray, which would mean that I'd expect an OS update in early/mid 2010 to allow blu-ray playback on all macs.

Apple really needs to do this to make it one more reason to get a mac.
Remember that if you boot into Linux or windows blu-ray playback will work already, unfortunatley does not seem to work for Parallels or Fusion due to the graphics drivers.

I see from that epic thread that Blu-ray is an issue to a lot of folks.

The LG BE06LU10 external blu-ray burner appears to be discontinued already, so there must be a new model coming, as mentioned. I can't find any info on the BE06LU20. I assume it's an 8X model?

Burning Blu-ray data discs is native in Mac OS X, I've tested data read and burn on my MacBook Pro and Mac Pro machines.

Burning HD video projects to Blu-ray media needs 3rd party software like Roxio Toast and Adobe Encore.

For External Blu-ray Burner, I have a USB 2.0 external Blu-ray burner by DIGISTOR, it has a Panasonic Blu-ray drive inside and has a self-powered battery for really heavy data burning sessions. 25GB capacity is a LOT of data to burn! If I may add, there's also the smell of real burning - like rubber being burned - when burning to Blu-ray media.

i have heard there are loads of problems burning from an external bd drive.

has anyone experience these.

fcp 7 can burn straight to it. have this been successful for anyone?
