External display - poor quality - tried forced RGB

I recently purchased a iiyama ProLite monitor, its a 24" 1080p variant. I've got it hooked up to my 2017 27" iMac via a thunderbolt 3 to display port cable. Unfortunately, its blurry as hell, and its not just because its 1080p. In bootcamp it looks just fine. I read up on it, and found out that my iMac recognizes it as TV. The fix is apparently to activate forced RGB mode. http://www.mathewinkson.com/2013/03...ix-the-picture-quality-of-an-external-monitor

I followed the instructions, the secondary display options now read 'Forced RGB mode (EDID override)' but there is no change what so ever in quality. Do I need to send the monitor back or is there a way to fix this?

For a 2017 iMac, don't you want a "USB-c to displayport" cable? (instead of "thunderbolt")

There's a nice little app called "Display Menu" in the App Store that will let you select from a much wider range of resolutions, both retina and non-retina, for a monitor than what the preferences panel will provide.

This is how I was able to enable retina-scaling on my 5K Dell monitors that originally defaulted to 5K at 1:1 scaling (teeeeeny menus). Ditto when I attached a 4K LG TV and my Mac for some reason decided to use 4K on the internal monitor as well.

The cable has great reviews on amazon, people are using it successfully with iMacs. The monitor seems fine as well.

Yeah, I sent it back. Just tried Duet Display and found that my 10.5 inch iPad Pro makes a great secondary display for my needs. Its enough screen for Chrome, Bear Notes, Spotify or a Twitch stream. Can't argue with that retina screen and the small price.

Any lag issues with Duet?

Super smooth at 1024x768. Pretty laggy any higher than that. But on the 10.5 inch iPad, a higher resolution is really pushing it in terms of text readability.
I've been using duet every day at work and at home, and I'm extremely satisfied. Just wish you could somehow set a default resolution. Every time I connect my iPad, I need to to lower the resolution manually.
