My ACER monitor was working fine when connected to Thunderbolt 2 Via multiple cables. Suddenly it stopped working. Now my monitor just goes to amber once I plug in the cable and I have the same display issue when connected to my Television and friends monitor. So this is definitely an issue with my MAC or Thunderbolt port.

Below are the things that I have done.

  • I checked the cables.
  • I checked the monitor and works fine with my PS4.
  • Did SMC.
  • DID PRAM
  • DID NVRAM
  • Did diagnostics on Mac by pressing D at startup and it passed.
  • Updated my MAC as Big Sur was available. Now to updated multiple time to Mac Big Sur 11.3.1
Below are my settings available in Thunderbolt bus under the system report.

Thunderbolt Bus:

Vendor Name: Apple Inc.
Device Name: MacBook Air
UID: 0x00010018179B83B0
Route String: 0
Firmware Version: 27.2
Domain UUID: 64B4B12A-F8B7-CD59-A05B-9D2988F90953

Port:
Status: No device connected
Link Status: 0x101
Speed: Up to 20Gb/s x1
Current Link Width: 0x1
Receptacle: 1
Link Controller Firmware Version: 0.15.0

Please help me if you have tried anything different.

What monitors were tested?

HDMI or DisplayPort connection?

What cables?

Does the MacBook Air detect any display? Show info from Graphics/Displays in System Information.app.

Do you have any Thunderbolt devices to test? Connect display to Thunderbolt dock or device.

Do you have a hard drive with an older version of macOS to test? Or try booting from an older macOS installer without installing.
