I've got a 2015 13" MacBook Pro and I'm looking for an external display.

Usage: study, develop, some office, some youtube. Multimedia will not be primary use

I'm looking to get a 24-27" monitor and evaluating if 1080p is good enough to do the stuff listed before or if I should wait until a 1440p display comes at the right price (I know, it has a better PPI, but it's way pricy in Italy - 50% more on 24 1080p vs 1440p).

I'm still debating if display port will be useful or if HDMI is enough.

I would suggest a 27-32" display with a 4K resolution. Here in Brazil, where prices are far higher than in Italy, 4K external monitors are about the same price as 1440p monitors.

These are certainly more expensive than 1080p monitors, but it is well worth it. Most 1080p monitors I found are low-quality TN models, and 1440p and 4K monitors are usually higher quality IPS models. So, I would not expect the price to drop too much.

And I honestly think 1080p on a 24" or 27" display is a complete waste if your purported use is productivity. If you are using the monitor exclusively for games or videos, then it may be OK, but, from your post, this is not the case.
