I have a 2019 mbp 15 connected to a 34inch samsung monitor ( LS34J552W https://www.samsung.com/us/computin...d/34-sj55w-ultra-wqhd-monitor-ls34j550wqnxza/)

They are connected through an hdmi cable and then a satechi usb-c dongle. The problem is that it takes about 10 sec for the mac and display to wake after hitting random keys on the keyboard.

I kind of regret getting the monitor now that I see that theres no thunderbolt connectors, it only has 2 hdmi ports and 1 display port.

I was wondering if theres anyway to speed up the wake time of the mac/display. I saw there are hdmi to thunderbolt port cable, would this speed up my wake time? Would a displayPort to thunderbolt cable would be best? Cable recommendation? And do you has a different solution that could speed up the wake time?

thanks

Slow monitor wake time is not uncommon at all and I think it's more the monitors fault than anything. It happens with my LG monitor no matter what connector or what type of PC I use. (Windows or Mac)

Thanks, this is dissapointing to hear…do displays that have a thunderport has a faster wake time? Like the LG ultrafine? If so, any suggestion of a display? I will probably selling this one

I've never owned a thunderbolt port monitor, but maybe someone else here can comment on that. I can't really recommend anything, they all have had slow waking. The only way I found around that limitation was to not let the monitor to turn off and go with just a black screen saver instead.

For what it's worth, I have two LG 4K monitors hooked up to my M1 Mac mini. One monitor is connected via a TB cable, the other using a J5Create TB to HDMI cable. Upon pressing the return key both wake up within five seconds.

If the monitor has multiple inputs, make sure that you set it to use the cable you have plugged in rather than hunt through the inputs to find the signal. The latter can take a while.

The only monitor I've ever used with near instant wake up is the Apple Studio Display. My Windoze laptop and any monitors I've ever used with it are VERY slow to wake up; hit the space bar and it takes about 4-6 seconds, at least, to show the password entry screen.

Same for every mac computer/monitor combo I can recall, except for the ASD.
