When i connect my Mac mini over HDMI to my 22-inch display, and the mini goes to sleep when booted to OS X installer (Mavericks), when awaking it up, i see weird colors :- (Attached)

Usually, it doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, unplugging & reconnecting HDMI cables solves this.


Note: Although, Terminal shows "white" in the screenshot, in actual fact it was "green"

Dunno why the iPhone didn't pick this up.

Any explanation to why this could be ? Maybe Mavericks installer doesn't support all displays ?

Does your display have any other type of connection ports?
DVI?
VGA?

If you get nowhere in trying to solve these problems with the HDMI port, you might consider connecting through the thunderbolt/minidisplayport instead.

This is a Mac Mini bug. I recently bought a late 2012 i7 Mac Mini, I have similar strand issue with the external monitor, I tried it out one the TB port and the HDMI port.

Sometimes when I boot it up, it has a lot snow, sometimes when the monitor wakes up, I get snow as well. I did some Google search, the explanation is something buggy with the Intel HD Graphics 4000 (in late 2012 Mac Mini).

I my case I use this work around. Sett one of the hot comers to put the display to sleep. When the snow comes up, I put it to sleep for a few seconds then wakes it up, the snow goes away.

I am glad it helps. Beats unplug and re-plug the video cable or a reboot.
This is a minor annoyance, nonetheless it is an annoyance. I am disappointed with Apple for allowing this glitch slipped through its QC. Granted it is an "low end Mac", still they should not fall into the trend of the garbage PC makers like Dell, HP, ACER...

I hope in the next release of the Mini, Apple will not repeat this mistake.
