So I have installed the beta on my iPad Mini 7 to see how the new multitasking worked and I have found I cannot get it to output properly to an external monitor. At the moment when I plug the iPad into either a usb c monitor or via HDMI using an adapter, I only get screen mirroring on the monitor (displaying exactly as the iPad displays including aspect ratio and scaling). I am hoping that it would act like an extended monitor as I have seen happen in the past with stage manager.
Curious as to whether other people are seeing this on the mini? Not sure if it’s a bug I should report, by design from Apple on the mini to limit it to just mirroring or if I am missing a setting somewhere. Be good to hear from other people with minis or other iPads as to their experiences. It would be really disappointing if Apple are not going to implement full extended monitor support on some models as I was hoping it would allow me to actually use the mini as a laptop replacement with a screen.

My understanding from what others have said is that external display support is the same as it was under iPadOS 18. So if Stage Manager support on an external monitor was missing from your iPad model in iPadOS 18, it will still be missing. It is only on the iPad screen itself that you may get a mode you lacked before.

To my understanding, only the M Chips are capable of supporting two independent monitors, one internal and one external. This capability is directly related to the Monitor Support feature available on the chip.
