External Drive other then the SuperDrive?

Can I use a 3rd party external drive instead of Apple's SuperDrive? Also what about a external blu-ray drive(I know won't work with Mac OS x but it does with windows via Bootcamp and the right software right?)

Works just fine.

And an external Blu-ray drive works just fine for reading (and writing, if a writable drive,) of data discs; and even writing of video discs with Toast. You just can't play movies natively. (See various forum entries for "Blu-ray to AppleTV" for how to rip a Blu-ray in OS X, though.)

I have a plextor and it is faster then the superdrive. but the eject won't work on it or the eject key when ripping cd's and dvd's. not sure if it is a drive issue or a os issue.

I have a sony that I used and when I insert a DVD, it instantly comes up tries to start playing it. I have booted to it a couple of times just as a test with no issues by holding the options key and it shows up.

That crappy drive Apple sells is slow as hell for ripping too. My Sony drive will work rings around that stupper drive (LOL) and I paid less for it.

The LG BP06 Blu-writer works fine.. reads and writes BR ( data and video (via Toast)) ..guts are Hitachi ... will require 2 USB ports ( power and data) .. reasonably quick burning DVD ..a bit slow burning BR , but that's understandable from USB ..
