OK, I goofed a little bit. I added an USB 3.0 hub and attached 2 external drives to it. One of the external drives showed up on my desktop, the other did not. I saw both drives in Finder and thought that I could just drag the drive over to the desktop thinking that I would then see it on both the desktop and in Finder. When I did that the drive went "poof!". When I rebooted the drive still showed up in Finder but now Disk Utility shows it as an internal and not an external drive and permissions are given to system and wheel rather than me. The drive mounts and works just fine. My question is should I leave it as is or change it back to it's original configuration? And, if I should change it back, how do I do that? Reformat the disk? Thanks in advance.

Open Disk Utility and take a screenshot of what you see and post it here.

OK, I solved it. It was the hub, the iMac is viewing any drive other than the drive in the first USB slot as an internal drive for some reason.
