i'm doing the set up where i install win xp on boot camp on an external and found this HDD: http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?pid=10655

will it run off only MBP usb-port? also, is this drive good or does anyone recommend any others?

would it be cheaper for me to get a 160 GB 2.5 inch to replace my internal and do the regular set up?

what do you recommend? in the end i essentially want:

- 50 gig mac partition
- 50 gig windows partition
- 2 FAT 32, 32 GB partitions for transfering files

If the drive specifications say that it will run powered only by the bus, then it will probably work fine. I run my Windows XP setup on a 2.5" drive powered by my MBP's bus.

One caveat though: you will need to dedicate the port to the drive and nothing else (or at the very most, the drive + a mouse running through a USB hub). Any more than that, and the drive won't get sufficient power. I run my Windows drive on a hub with a laptop mouse. If I so much as plug in a USB flash drive, the hard drive shuts off.
