Just bought M2 MBP with Ventura 13.3.1 OS.

Tried to plug in external SSD and USB flash drives and it's not picked up, no error messages pop up. All the boxes are ticked in settings to show external drives....

Tried all the different ports, all the same, no success.

Luckily i've kept my old MBP ( 2018 ) and all the drives work on there without issue.

Any thoughts what to try?

Thanks.

Did you go to finder/settings/general and check the right boxes?

If you did that, and still nothing, isn't there a new setting buried somewhere in the system settings that you set to permit USB devices to be attached?

OP;
Since you have a Apple silicon Mac & Ventura you may be experiencing a problem with Apples new security "feature".

Make sure you Allow accessories to connect in Security section of Privacy & Security in the Ventura System Settings.
