I don't know why Vista doesn't recognize external USB/ FW harddisks. In OS-X they appear automatically.

When i plug in the USB-disk Vista tells me it successfully installed and is ready to use. But the disk is nowhere to find in explorer or elsewhere.

What's going on? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Seems like your xHDD is HFS+ formatted!
Plug it in your Mac and press command+I. Check the "Format:" and see what is it! Win wont recognize HFS

yes that might be the case but i thought Vista could at least load and read it (but just not write on it)?

Do i need to install some tool like MacDrive so windows can recognize it?
