external FAT or NTFS external drives not showing up in Finder

Have you tried restarting your Mac? Have you mounted the drives?

ive restarted several times but they dont show up. they are in Rocketfish HDD cases with card readers and 2 USB ports. and if I put my flash drives in the USB slots, they are recognized by Finder. but the actual drives in the cases are not.

Launch Disk Utility and see if the drives appear there. If so, select a drive and click the "Mount" button on the toolbar, (unless it says "Unmount", in which case it's already mounted).

will not mount, so am doing a disk repair and now its giving me a "Volume marked as Dirty" message and "MFT Record 0xc is unreadable." with more like that following. so either ML hates NTFS and wants to do stuff to it or something
